After a rainy Golden Slipper Day last weekend we return to Rosehill for a meeting conducted on a firm track.
A strong nine race program has been assembled for the meeting with the feature being the Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m) where Almandin has a genuine sense of timing to him third
After taking out the Coolmore Classic (1500m) a fortnight ago, Daysee Doom looks set to continue her winning ways in the Emancipation Stakes.
As consistent as they come, Daysee Doom also commenced her prep with a win in the Millie Fox Stakes (1300m).
Outside of our champion Winx, Ron Quinton’s five-year-old is the form mare of Sydney and has beaten all bar one rival she faces here during her latest prep.
She is well suited switching from the handicap conditions of the Coolmore Classic to the Set Weights plus Penalties conditions of this affair.
Highlighting this is she meets the Coolmore Classic runner up Oregon’s Day 7lbs better at the weights and Eckstein who ran fourth 2lbs better at the weights.
Daysee Doom’s stablemate Dixie Blossoms is considered her main danger after a luckless sixth in the Coolmore Classic.
It’s worth noting however Dixie Blossoms is winless at Rosehill from eight prior starts and post Coolmore Classic, jockey Corey Brown suggested she may have felt the firm track to some extent.
Daysee Doom should be taking out the Emancipation Stakes on Saturday and then potentially continue her unbeaten autumn at Weight For Age in the $1million Coolmore Legacy Stakes at Randwick on April
There is plenty of value scattered throughout the program however it is Mister Sea Wolf contesting the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) who represents the best of
Mister Sea Wolf was excellent on resuming when second to Lanciato in the Newmarket Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle three weeks ago.
The son of Amadeus Wolf loomed up to win the Group 3 event however was simply overpowered by a fitter rival over the closing stages.
The Chris Waller-trained import is yet to run a bad race since arriving in Australia having performed well in both the Festival Stakes and Villiers Stakes during the summer.
Always tagged as a Doncaster Mile-bound runner but currently only balloted 42nd, he can book his place in the $3million event with a success here.
With that in mind, the stable will no doubt have Mister Sea Wolf timed to the minute as anything other than victory will likely result in the six-year-old being balloted out of the prestigious mile feature.
