NEWS PREVIEW

The Melbourne Mail - April 7

It's Golden Mile Day at Bendigo and deep fields throw up some interesting betting contests.
We are waiting until the last of nine races on the Bendigo card for our best but we are thinking that the now Darren Weir-trained Land Of Plenty will be worth the wait.
He's been waiting for a while himself, 14 runs having been and gone without success since his maiden win, and on face value that has to be a black mark against his name.
He's run in some top contests in that time, though, and his first run since joining Darren Weir was a promising one. There the betting pointed to him needing the hit out and he ended up in a tricky spot back and along the Moonee Valley fence.
His closing splits from a hopeless position said he was much better than the bare result on the night and now he finds himself not only in a much easier contest but drawn out in space and up to 7 f. That gives him his chance to use that closing burst to full effect.
We've seen him run ratings behind better horses that would win this race and we are happy to gamble up on the fact that he is going as well now as he ever has.
For an each way play we go right back to the first where Sin To Win makes some appeal going back up to 1 1⁄2 m.
Defeat in the Albury Cup might not make for great reading for some, with plenty of these coming off a strong running of the Mornington Cup, but he did too much too soon at Albury, striking for home off a tempo that played into the hands of those ridden more conservatively.
It can be a great toughen up run and his efforts behind the Mornington Cup winner prior to last time had him tracking nicely this campaign.
THE MELBOURNE MAIL
