We're back to Flemington for what looks a really interesting off season card this Saturday.
We could hardly call the meeting a spring pointer but there is a couple of horses there that could make their way into better races at the early part of the spring if they perform as expected and one of those is the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Brave Song who steps out in race 6.
One of the sharpest stables in the land bring down a horse with one of the best rider's in Melbourne booked - there's almost enough of a case for Brave Song there! - but what really marks him down as one to be with is his closing effort behind Kementari at Warwick Farm last preparation.
He was no match for Kementari, sure, but he returned a nice figure finishing strongly three lengths behind one of the best colts in the land and it was no fluke with all of his form in that five-run campaign hovering around that fairly smart level.
That he was a fresh winner off two good trials last time around doesn't hurt either. Early betting has him contesting favouritism with Order Of Command who is a nice horse and race fit but we think Brave Song should go to post as the people's solo elect.
For an each way play we roll onto what looks a terrific eighth race on the card where Sixties Groove is sure to be popular with the punters having won at Flemington two weeks ago.
He caught the eye winning that day but it is worth noting that the platform he used to score that win was in running second to Pacodali and it's far from a given that he turns the tables on that runner.
Sectional times pointed to the pair of them going particularly well that day and Pacodali was just second He is smart and should have more to offer. Each way odds look more than fair here.
