Sharp Kaylan Can Rebound From Minister’s Cup Disappointment In Ilgan Sports Trophy
The agony was etched into the face of jockey Lee Chul-kyung. Sharp Kaylan had led since the early stages of the Minister’s Cup and was yards away from pulling off a shock victory in what was the final leg of this year’s Triple Crown. It was not to
The 80/1 shot was denied at the last by the fast-finishing World Sun, Lee screaming in frustration as they crossed the line, his biggest career win so tantalizingly close yet snatched away.

There is a chance of redemption of sorts at Seoul Racecourse this Sunday when Lee and Sharp Kaylan are reunited in the Ilgan Sports Cup (Listed) over 1 1⁄8 m. A revelation in the Minister’s Cup, having not made either of the first two legs of the Triple Crown, he’ll be favourite to prevail over a field of nine rivals.

Five of those nine raced one another in last month’s Sports Chosun Cup at 1 1⁄4 m and it was the 2017 Korean Oaks winner Jejui Haneul who was the best of them that day coming home 2nd, albeit a full five-lengths adrift of winner Spero. Nasca Prince was 3rd and may be more of a danger over a slightly shorter trip this time and those two look like the ones capable of ruining Lee’s Sunday once more.

Sunday will conclude with a class 1 sprint handicap over 7 f. US import Winner Gold (by Wildcat Heir), successful in six of his eight starts so far will be a leading contender as will fellow exciting three-year-old import Moonhak Chief (by Pioneerof The Nile).
He’s won five of nine and can hardly be faulted for his latest effort when he finished 6th over 1 1⁄4 m in the YTN Cup behind the likes of Cheongdam Dokki and Clean Up Joy.

There are 11 races at Busan on Sunday with the 1st at 10:45am and the last at 6pm local Korea time.
