Group 1 racing in Sydney gets underway for season 2018/19 at Randwick with the Winx Stakes which will play host to her first run this spring.
Winx will certainly be hard to beat as she searches for a 26th straight victory however the likes of Kementari and D’Argento are talented enough to at least keep things sporting.
The nine race card at Randwick is something of a trap meeting with most of the runners through the five stakes races on the program resuming from spells.
There is a question mark on how all of them have returned so a watch of both betting and parade rings will be essential through the second half of the card.
With that in mind, Kaonic gets the nod as the best of the day contesting the Nicholas Moraitis Benchmark 89 Handicap (1400m).
Kaonic kicked off his latest prep with a success at this course and distance four weeks ago.
The son of Savabeel on that occasion settled back and charged home along the fence.
Two winners have since come out of the race and Chris Waller looks to have found a most suitable assignment for Kaonic second
He will be fitter and has won second up in the past.
The entire has also won two of his three starts at the course with his lone defeat a three length sixth behind Kementari in the Randwick Guineas last autumn.
Waller’s number one rider Hugh Bowman jumps aboard and should wrap up his day as a winner with a horse who profiles as a lightweight Epsom hope.
Luvaluva shapes as a value play in an open renewal of the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m).
The daughter of Mastercraftsman resumes after a four start autumn campaign which despite being interrupted by a virus, netted two Group 3 wins in the Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) and the Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m).
A multiple Group winner over a mile and beyond, she’s no slouch over sprint trips either.
Luvaluva shed her maiden tag over this distance and was fair when sixth in a white hot renewal of the Hobartville Stakes (1400m) last prep.
The John Sargent-trained mare looked good in her latest trial over 5 f at Rosehill.
Kerrin McEvoy stays aboard after partnering her through the autumn and also in her two trials this prep.
