Korea: Aussie Trainer Peter Wolsley One Win Away From Career Milestone
Only three Busan-based trainers have every saddled 500 winners and Australian handler Peter Wolsley looks set to join that elite group at some point this weekend.
Wolsley, currently on 499 Korean successes, sends out twelve runners across a big pair of cards on the South Coast on Saturday and Sunday and a number have prominent chances.
The big win could come as early as race 1 on a rare Saturday card at Busan. It features a full-field of twelve previously unraced juveniles and Wolsley’s Afleet posted the joint-fastest time in trials and has as good a chance as any of claiming the honours. Later Wolsley’s Maple Classic in race 8 and King Of Glory in race 10 are both live chances too.
Should the win elude him on Saturday, then Sunday’s bumper 15-race card offers plenty more opportunities including, should it come to King Of Ace in the very last race of the weekend. King Of Ace was originally scheduled to go to the Dubai World Cup Carnival where Wolsley will still be represented in Meydan by Listed Kookje News Cup winner Ace Korea. The first foreign trainer to be licensed in Korea, Wolsley began training at Busan in 2007.
With no Seoul this weekend, it is Busan’s turn to take centre-stage on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday sees 10 races from 10:45 to 18:00, local Korea time while there are 15 on Sunday also from 10:45 to 18:00. Every race across the two days has attracted the maximum field-size of twelve.
