Golden Power, Raon First headline weekend Seoul filly and mare features

Fillies and mares take centre-stage this weekend with the filly Triple Crown reaching its conclusion on Saturday in the Gyeonggi Governor’s Cup (2000M KOR-G3) while on Sunday their older counterparts take their turn in the first leg of the Queens’ Tour, the Ttukseom Cup (1400M KOR-G2).

Three fillies have been a class above the rest in the first two legs of the "Tiara" and while ten take their chance on Saturday it would be a surprise if the same three didn't fill out the placings. Having narrowly won both the Luna Stakes and Korean Oaks, it is hard to go past GOLDEN POWER. She won in contrasting styles, settling back in the Luna, which was contested over a mile, before racing on pace in the Oaks at 1800M.

Golden Power is beautifully drawn on the inside and over the extended trip, has every chance of completing a clean sweep of the series. RAON THE SPURT is the most likely candidate to stop her. She was sent off as the favourite for the Luna and led for much of the way around, ultimately finishing in 3rd place, before in the Oaks, being drawn wide but was ridden patiently before making up excellent ground late ultimately missing out by a neck.

Raon The Spurt has a closer draw today and the additional furlong could make things very interesting. CHAMJOEUN CHINGU is the third filly in the race, having lost out in the photo-finish of the Luna before running a good 3rd in the Oaks, two-and-a-half lengths behind Golden Power  and Raon The Spurt , but a full nine clear of the rest. She can sit behind the leaders and be there when it counts.

As for the rest of the field, P N S LUCKY finished back in the field in the Luna but had previously shown she can be competitive when racing the colts in the Sports Seoul Classic Trial (1400M KOR-L). In 6th she was the first filly home and was less then five-lengths from the winner.

Jockey Choi Bum-hyun will partner Raon The Spurt and he also climbs aboard her stablemate and hot favourite, RAON FIRST in Sunday's Ttukseom Cup, the first leg of the three-race Queens' Tour for older fillies and mares.

Raon First  already has ten wins to her name including all of her latest four starts at distances between 6 f and 1 1⁄8 m; a class 1 handicap then a Listed race against the males followed by a Group 3 and another Listed race back in filly and mare company. She simply too good for this field.

(6) CLEAR GEOM will be the next in the betting as she measures up at class 1 over the distance and was working home well when 2nd last start in the Donga Ilbo Trophy (1800M KOR-L) behind Raon First and from the widest draw. She was also 2nd to Raon First in the Jeju Governor's Cup (1400M KOR-G3) in December.

(2) WISH ME is a lightly raced mare but has worked her way through the grades to class 2, having run 2nd at her last start over 7 f and she can be a contender. EODIGANA, like Clear Geom, is a former winner of the Gyeonggi Governor's Cup and showed a return to form at her latest start 3rd in the Gold Circle Trophy (1800M). A repeat of that run will put her thereabouts.

The Gyeonggi Governor's Cup is race 7 on a 9-race card at Seoul on Saturday while the Ttukeseom Cup is race 9 of 11 on Sunday.
