Bieg chasing Finals Day win

Chris Bieg's ex-Singapore galloper lines up at Morphettville this Saturday.

Chris Bieg's punt on ex-Singapore galloper Mt Niseko can pay further dividends on Saturday when the rejuvenated six-year-old chases victory in the Sportsbet Gytrash Series Final (1200m) at Morphettville.

One of six $105,000 races on Saturday, the Gytrash Series Final has quickly become one of South Australia's premier spring contests and was last year a battleground for subsequent Stakes winners Sir Sway and Watchme Win.

Mt Niseko has won three of his seven starts since arriving in Bieg's care and was far from disgraced in a strong Grand Handicap at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.

Bieg said the horse has continued to train on during his spring campaign.

"He was a relatively cheap purchase on his return from Singapore," Bieg said.

"He's repaid us in leaps and bounds.

"He's settled into our training regime really well and he's going very good. He's a very happy horse."

Bieg will also saddle up last-start winner Overstrike in the $105,000 Riziz Series Final (1200m), a race in which he was runner-up in 2024.

"He ran second to Howl 12 months ago but I think he's in better order coming into this Saturday," he said.

"We've learned a lot about him and you continue to learn a lot form these older horses.

"I'd like it if it was three weeks between runs but he had a nice gallop on Tuesday morning.

"Caitlin Jones sticks with him and she was really happy with the gallop."
